| Masimo Releases iPhone/iPad Pulse Oximeter, Aims to Satisfy Quantified Selves Posted: 17 Dec 2012 04:04 AM PST ![]() Masimo just announced a consumer pulse oximeter that works with Apple iPhones and iPads. Masimo is a big name in pulse oximetry and this technology may become popular with athletes that are looking to have a better understanding of their body’s performance. The system provides continuous blood oxygenation (SpO2), pulse rate (PR), and perfusion index (PI) monitoring and tracks these numbers for later review. The device is not meant for medical use, but a professional model is currently awaiting U.S. and European approvals. Notably, it works via a 30 pin connector, and so won’t be naturally compatible with the iPhone 5 and the new iPads. |
