ECG Check, a New iPhone Cardiac Monitor Cleared in U.S.

The good folks at MobiHealthNews have discovered that there’s a stealthy challenger out there quietly scheming to compete with the AliveCor iPhone ECG heart monitor. The Utah based firm Cardiac Designs isn’t yet providing much information about their ECG Check, but the essentials are clear. Also being a single lead ECG iPhone case with electrodes on the back, the device, which received FDA 510(k) clearance in January of this year, looks and probably acts much like the AliveCor.

To be fair, ECG’s all do the same task in about the same way, but it will be exciting to see what the matching app will look like and do with the data it receives. The nearly bare product page does state that the ECG Check will be available for the iPhone 4S and iPhone 5 models, while the AliveCor currently works only on the 4/4S iPhones.
