| Keesler Air Force Base Deploys PACS Posted: 15 Jul 2009 09:08 AM PDT The U.S. Air Force has deployed Belgium-based Agfa HealthCare ’s Impax PACS to replace the existing system at Keesler Air Force Base ’s Keesler Medical Center in Biloxi, Miss. According to the company, Impax includes security features such as armoring, encryption, access control, auditing and compliance with regional legislation, which the Air Force hopes will help in achieving its goal of securely connecting and consolidating data and imaging archives located at multiple regional facilities onto a single point of storage. Keesler Medical Center is one of the largest medical centers in the Air Force. Its diagnostic imaging department boasts an array of state-of-the-art equipment, including the Air Force’s only 3-Tesla MRI system, says the company. |
| N.C. Health System Farming Out Web Services Posted: 14 Jul 2009 08:28 AM PDT Novant Health , a not-for-profit integrated group of hospitals and physician practices based in Winston-Salem, N.C., is contracting with CareTech Solutions, Inc. (Troy, Mich.) for its Web services. CareTech says it will roll out its content management system and provide secure hosting for Novant Health’s ten hospital websites. It will also redevelop Novant’s corporate Web site, physician portals and physician practice Web sites, according to the company. CareWorks CMS, a module-based engine, will be leveraged to migrate existing Web pages, it says. The company will work with the Novant Health Web Center team to create customizable sites for the health system, incorporating functionalities such as bill payment, patient preregistration, class registration, physician finder and appointment request form interfaces. CareTech will host the Web sites within its data center, it says. Novant Health cares for patients and communities in North and South Carolina and Virginia. The Novant Medical Group consists of 1,097 physicians in 372 practice locations. |
| Baptist St. Anthony’s Taps EDIS Posted: 14 Jul 2009 08:26 AM PDT Baptist St. Anthony’s Health System (BSA) in Amarillo, Texas is implementing Somerset, N.J.-based Wellsoft Corporation ’s Emergency Department Information System (EDIS). The Health System will incorporate several functions of the EDIS, including patient tracking, risk management, order tracking and real-time reporting, according to the company. The solution will be integrated into the existing hospital information system at BSA, it says. Baptist St. Anthony Health System includes a 451-bed not-for-profit community hospital, which serves over 40,000 patients in its ED each year, and provides service to the Texas panhandle and the tri-state area. |
| KLAS Report: Cost for ERP Consulting Dropped Posted: 13 Jul 2009 12:11 PM PDT A new report from Orem, Utah-based KLAS says the typical cost hospitals pay for a consulting engagement for enterprise resource planning (ERP) software has dropped dramatically in the past three years. The report, “Staying on Target with ERP Implementations: A Report on Healthcare Consulting Firms,” reflects the experiences of 59 healthcare providers that have recently implemented or upgraded ERP software with the help of IT consultants. The study points out that the average cost of an ERP consulting engagement has dropped 77 percent in three years – from roughly $2 million in 2006 to just $450,000 today. According to KLAS, in addition to budget constraints facing hospitals, it also reflects that fact that most healthcare ERP engagements today are upgrades.
