KLAS: Vendors Failing to Meet Providers’ Economic Needs

Posted: 02 Jun 2009 08:12 AM PDT

The gap between what providers need and what IT vendors are offering to deal with a troubled economy is wide, according to data from a new KLAS (Orem, Utah) report. Providers are looking for creative solutions to keep projects moving in spite of tight budgets; however, those solutions are virtually non-existent, says the report, which includes feedback from dozens of CIOs and other healthcare executives on a range of economic issues. The report, entitled Executive Reaction to the Stimulus Package, also examines the shift in IT project timelines that is occurring as a result of ARRA. It states that 28 percent of providers have accelerated or changed the direction of their IT plans since the announcement of the stimulus package, with 43 percent ready to move but watching cautiously. While Microsoft, Epic and GE received the highest ratings from providers for trying to support customers with creative solutions, no healthcare technology vendors received overwhelming praise for their efforts to help customers deal with the challenging economy, says KLAS. Earning the lowest scores were Agfa, Kronos and Meditech.   To purchase the report, healthcare providers and vendors can visit www.KLASresearch.com .
