| Imaging e-Ordering Coalition Formed Posted: 17 Jun 2009 10:25 AM PDT An alliance of healthcare providers, technology companies and diagnostic imaging organizations have joined forces to form the Imaging e-Ordering Coalition (The Coalition, Washington). According to the coalition, it will promote Health Information Technology (HIT) enabled decision-support (e-Ordering) as a solution to assure that all patients receive the most medically appropriate diagnostic imaging test for their specific condition. The Coalition is focused on the following components: Promote existing HIT legislative concepts to inform policy makers on the value of e-Ordering to enable the appropriate use of imaging. Ask lawmakers to include e-Ordering in the development of healthcare system efficiency incentives. Act as a resource for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) on its Medicare Imaging Demonstration Project established by Congress in Section 135(b) of the Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act of 2008 (MIPPA). Work with policy makers to have the Coalition’s e-Ordering proposal for CMS scored to validate long-term value and savings for the healthcare industry. | Sentara to Offer RCM Interoperability for EDIS Posted: 17 Jun 2009 08:34 AM PDT Norfolk, Va.-based Sentara Healthcare has entered a strategic alliance with Bellevue, Wash.-based LYNX Medical Systems to design and deliver a packaged integration solution between the Picis (Wakefield, Mass.) LYNX emergency department revenue management solution, and Epic Systems Corporation’s (Verona, Wis.) EDIS. According to the company, this interface with Epic’s clinical information system in the ED is live in eight facilities throughout the Sentara Healthcare system. In order to maintain critical consistencies in revenue, documentation, compliance, workflow and audit defense, as well as order and process management and nursing assessment, Sentara Healthcare developed an interface between its Epic system-wide EHR and LYNX E/Point, which it says had allowed Sentara to recoup millions in revenue over the past five years. |
| HITSP Begins EHR Standardization Process Posted: 16 Jun 2009 12:04 PM PDT The New York-based Healthcare Information Technology Standards Panel (HITSP) has begun work to identify global standards to support a core set of research data that can readily be exchanged between EHRs and clinical research systems. As administrator of HITSP, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI, Washington) has named 35 organizations in the clinical research community that have contributed financial support, including the Cleveland Clinic, MetroHealth System, University Hospitals, Duke University, and Partners HealthCare. Six U.S. federal agencies have also demonstrated support, including the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, the National Cancer Institute, the National Center for Research Resources, the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology, the Department of Veterans Affairs, and the Assistant Secretary of Planning and Evaluation, Department of Health and Human Services. HITSP is a cooperative partnership between the public and private sectors that works to ensure the interoperability of EHRs in the United States. Its goal is to produce an electronic standards implementation guide that outlines the standards, how they support clinical research, and how they fit with existing HITSP guidelines being used within the clinical care environment. |
| CCHIT Taps Axolotl’s Radov for HIE Work Group Posted: 16 Jun 2009 12:00 PM PDT The Chicago-based Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology (CCHIT) has chosen Nick Radov, director of research and development for Axolotl Corp. (San Jose, Calif.), to serve as a member of its Health Information Exchange (HIE) Work Group for 2009-10. Composed of 20 members, the group will develop the criteria and inspection process for certifying the HIEs over which patient information is securely shared, according to Axolotl. Radov brings more than 12 years of experience and knowledge to the HIE Work Group, as he was instrumental in leading Axolotl’s efforts with product conformance testing for Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise profiles, the National Health Infrastructure Network project for HHS, and representing the company to the HL7 standards organization, it says. Two of Axolotl’s customers were also selected: Robert C. Steffel, president and CEO of Greater Cincinnati HealthBridge, Inc., and Deborah Bass, President and CEO of Bass & Associates, Inc, and Interim Executive Director of the Nebraska Health Information Initiative. |
