| TheraDoc Unveils Infectious Disease Tracking Tool Posted: 16 Oct 2009 08:15 AM PDT Salt Lake City-based TheraDoc has started beta testing of a new computerized patient surveillance tool designed to help hospitals monitor and manage screening programs for multidrug-resistant organisms such as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). The MDRO Compliance Manager, designed for use with TheraDoc’s Infection Control Assistant and its Expert System Platform core technology, aims to help hospitals boost compliance with screening protocols by quickly identifying patients who need to be tested and patients who need to be isolated to reduce the spread of infectious diseases, says the company. The tool will be available to TheraDoc customers as part of its Infection Control Assistant in the first half of 2010, it says. |
| Posted: 16 Oct 2009 08:14 AM PDT Spire Healthcare Group, a 36-hospital provider based in the United Kingdom, has installed Mortsel, Belgium-based Agfa HealthCare ’s IMPAX PACS and Computed Radiography (CR) systems in 10 of its hospitals. According to the company, the implementation has improved image storage and retrieval and has enabled consultant radiologists working with Spire Healthcare to use 3D reconstruction and work with orthopedic templating software for the first time. Spire Healthcare is the United Kingdom’s second largest private hospital provider, with more than 7,600 employees. The system treats more than 930,000 patients per year. |
| Penn Medicine Inks $135 Million Contract with Siemens Posted: 16 Oct 2009 08:13 AM PDT The University of Pennsylvania Health System (Penn Medicine, Philadelphia) has signed a seven-year, $135 million contract for Integrated Service Management with Malvern, Pa.-based Siemens Healthcare . Under the terms of the deal, Siemens says it will service and ensure around-the-clock availability of diagnostic systems and biomedical devices in Penn Medicine’s hospitals. Siemens will also provide consulting services on workflow optimization and offer training for service engineers and operating personnel. According to the company, the new contract represents an extension of the preceding eight-year service agreement. Penn Medicine is a $3.5 billion enterprise consisting of the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and the University of Pennsylvania Health System, which includes three hospitals — the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania Hospital and Penn Presbyterian Medical Center. |
| Hoag Hospital Rolls Out ED Patient Tracking Posted: 16 Oct 2009 08:11 AM PDT Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian (Newport Beach, Calif.) has implemented the Amelior EDTracker from Charlotte, N.C.-based Patient Care Technology Systems (PCTS) to track patients in its emergency department. The Web-based solution, which is part of the Amelior Enterprise Visibility Suite, features an ultrasonic real-time locating system from Sonitor Technologies, says the company. It is designed to facilitate patient flow by automatically identifying the location and status of patients and equipment. According to PCTS, Amelior EDTracker interfaces with ADT, lab, and radiology systems to integrate additional patient and order status information and create a centralized workflow communication and management portal for the ED. Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian is a 498-bed, not-for-profit, acute care hospital offering a mix of services, including Centers of Excellence in cancer, heart and vascular, neurosciences, orthopedics and women’s health. |
