| Mass General Rolls Out Disease Surveillance System Posted: 21 May 2009 07:48 AM PDT Massachusetts General Hospital (Boston) has gone live with an application designed to help the Massachusetts Department of Public Health reduce the risk of major outbreaks of communicable diseases. The high-volume system, which is built on Cambridge, Mass.-based InterSystems Corporation ’s Ensemble platform, processes more than 91 million HL7 messages annually. According to the company, the system will deliver disease information updates every eight hours, 24/7. Massachusetts General is part of the Boston-based Partners HealthCare integrated network. Partners includes multiple major hospitals with more than 5,000 practicing physicians attending to four million outpatient visits and 160,000 admissions annually. |

Medical Society Taps Data Protection Provider Posted: 21 May 2009 07:46 AM PDT The Massachusetts Medical Society (Waltham, Mass.) has selected Baton Rouge, La.-based Venyu Solutions, Inc. as its preferred data protection provider. Under the terms of the agreement, members of the organization can use Venyu for off-site and highly secure backup storage of patient data and practice information as mandated by HIPAA, according to the company. The Massachusetts Medical Society is dedicated to educating and advocating for patients and physicians in the state. In addition to publishing the New England Journal of Medicine and Journal Watch alerts and newsletters covering 13 specialties, the Society conducts medical education programs for physicians and health care professionals. |
| Ontario Hospital Integrates Wireless Systems Posted: 21 May 2009 07:45 AM PDT Ontario-based Trillium Health Centre installed ConnexALL technology from GlobeStar Systems, Inc. (Toronto) in its 763 bed, two-site hospital to improve communication between Philips’ patient monitors and telemetry packs and Cisco VoIP wireless photos. Through the implementation, the facility aims to make it easier for clinical staff to monitor patients at Trillium’s Queensway West location, according to the company. ConnexALL ensures instant notification by integrating Philips and Cisco communication tools, it touts. Trillium is also installing a Rauland-Borg Responder IV nurse call system is also being deployed in its new seven-story, 136-bed west wing. |
