Ban-OxyContin petition launched

An  online petition to ban the painkiller OxyContin, posted two weeks ago in Tampa, has attracted more than 2,000 signatures and is headed for a national audience at an FDA meeting next week. Doctors who treat pain patients view the petition as "very dangerous."

Several consumer groups in Florida have called on Gov. Charlie Crist to veto SB 1122, which lets doctors get paid without joining insurance networks. But Sandy Leon, who's on the board of one of the groups, disagrees; so does St. Petersburg Times columnist Howard Troxler.

KLAS: Providers Demand Pharmacy Integration

According to a new report from Orem, Utah-based KLAS , how well pharmacy software vendors deliver on integration with core clinical has a significant impact on provider adoption and satisfaction. The KLAS report, Pharmacy Information Systems: In the Age of Integration , profiles the performance of eight pharmacy automation vendors, as reported by more than 350 healthcare professionals, the organization says. In particular, the report looks at the level of integration each product enables with other components of the closed-loop medication administration process. According to KLAS, its report also finds that despite the positive reaction from providers to some of the recent improvements made by vendors, the pharmacy software market continues to earn some of the lowest satisfaction scores of any area the organization tracks.

Coordinated Health Selects EHR and PM Solutions

Coordinated Health , a provider of sports and musculoskeletal medicine in Allentown, Pa., selected Chicago-based Allscripts EHR and PM solutions to connect and automate its 50 physicians and 50 mid-level providers and physical therapists across eight locations, the company says.  According to Allscripts, Coordinated Health decided to implement an EHR in part due to financial incentives that will soon be available under ARRA . Coordinated Health operates a Surgical Specialty Hospital in Bethlehem that combines outpatient facilities with 20 inpatient rooms for patients who require extensive surgery, as well as physician offices and rehabilitation and imaging centers.
