Here's what Dr. O'Leary tells Medgadget: The program is designed primarily for anesthesia care providers. It allows the user to type in keywords from the procedure they were involved in. From there, the program scans the 2009 CPT database and finds the most likely matches. The user selects the appropriate one. The program next returns the correct CPT anesthesia code. Without the program, the user needs to look in two separate books to get this information. The codes are required for payment from most insurance companies and government payors (Medicare and Medicaid).
