Fletcher Allen Goes Live on EHR in 15 Months

Fletcher Allen Health Care (Burlington,Vt.) went live on its EHR system, PRISM (Patient Record and Information Systems Management), after a 15-month planning and implementation period assisted by Falls Church, Va.-based CSC Healthcare Group . PRISM is now operational in the hospital’s inpatient areas as well as the emergency department, Walk-In Care Center, and inpatient pharmacy. The new EHR system from Epic (Verona, Wis.) enables staff can view all patient information in one place; access patient data from remote locations. It also allows for multiple parties to concurrently check patient information and instant access to medical orders. To date, Fletcher Allen’s providers are entering 92 percent of all medical orders (and 96 percent of all medication orders) electronically, reducing the turnaround time for receiving medications and tests, and enhancing the accuracy of clinical documentation, says the company. Fletcher Allen Health Care is Vermont’s academic medical center. It serves as a regional referral center, providing advanced care to approximately one million people in Vermont and northern New York, and as a community hospital for approximately 150,000 residents in Chittenden and Grand Isle counties.

Agfa Expands Integration with peerVue for Radiology

Mortsel, Belgium-based Agfa HealthCare says it has expanded its technical integration of IMPAX 6.0 radiology PACS with workflow, quality improvement, and communications products from peerVue (Sarasota, Fla.), a provider of niche healthcare software solutions. The companies say Agfa HealthCare will become a reseller for peerVue’s qiVue, a workflow, quality and communication solution, and caseVue, a teaching file and content management solution, enabling Agfa HealthCare to offer both qiVue and caseVue to its IMPAX radiology PACS customers. The integrated Agfa HealthCare/peerVue solution allows radiology departments to meet increased regulatory and quality challenges while providing an easy-to-use, tightly-integrated workflow, they tout.

Indianapolis Hospital Goes Live on Centricity Enterprise

Community Hospital South (Indianapolis) has gone live with GE Healthcare’ s (Barrington, Ill.) Centricity Enterprise 6.1 and Monitored Care, an integrated clinical, financial and administrative solution that the company says enables it to integrate clinical and medical device data into the EMR. The company says GE Healthcare Centricity Enterprise will automate key clinical processes for lab orders, test results, pharmacy and care documentation with administrative, financial and billing processes throughout the electronic record system. The Centricity EMR has been in place at the hospital since 2002. Community Hospital South is a 200-bedm licensed acute care facility serving south-central Indiana and is part of the Indianapolis-based Community Health Network.

Memorial MC Installs Wireless Network

Memorial Medical Center (MMC) of Western Michigan, an 87-bed community hospital located in Ludington, Mich., is deploying a wireless LAN from Lowery Computer (Brighton, Mich.), a Motorola (Shaumburg, Ill.) channel partner. The hospital’s new Motorola WLAN technology will enable end-to-end voice, video and data mobility across the entire healthcare facility, says the company. Patients and guests will also have access to high-speed Internet access. The new wireless network replaces the hospital’s legacy infrastructure and, says the company, offers a backbone for the development and implementation of future technologies.
